My passion lies in empowering people to enjoy optimal health and prevent lifestyle-related chronic diseases. I do this by giving them access to and ownership of their own medical data, either in the form of DNA and/or biochemistry testing. Ienablethemtounderstandthisinformationsothatthey can start to personalize their health choices. As a qualified Speech, Hearing and Language Therapist, I spent my early 20’s providing therapy services to stutterers, stroke patients, deaf children and running parent support groups. During this period of my life, I graduated CUM Laude for clinical therapy as part of my degree and thoroughly enjoyed working with people to empower them. After I graduated, I decided to study a marketing diploma to balance my paramedical, tertiary education with some business subjects. I loved it! This decision took me away from being a clinician, towards a career in the medical insurance business. My business career flourished, and I was promoted to managing director of a managed healthcare company in South Africa during the 1990s. I was responsible for negotiating managed healthcare contracts with healthcare providers with the goal of trying to manage the escalating cost of chronic diseases. At the age of 32, I took a sabbatical from a very stressful, cortisol-fueled career to start a family. After the birth of my second child at 36, I was diagnosed with estrogen-positive cancer. And this was the beginning of my journey into the world of functional medicine. I sat in the patient’s chair for the first time in my life and experienced the ‘gap’ in traditional healthcare. It really concerned me that my doctors were focused on the physical disease but not what was going on underneath the surface. Furthermore, I felt disempowered to take actions to change my lifestyle. I just didn’t have the tools or knowledge. Being a health coach enables me to change this for others.
My passion lies in nutrigenomics, DNA testing, Functional Medicine Diet Plans, Neuroprotection, Inflammation Management, Estrogen Metabolism, Oxidative Stress, Mitochondrial Health, and Stress Transformation.
My passion lies in coaching people who have done DNA testing and require assistance in understanding their genotype and how to personalise their health choices based on their genetic predispositions. I am particularly interested in reducing inflammation, neuroprotection, hormone balancing, phase1, 2 and 3 liver detox and methylation.
