Biographical Info

This is the part where I’m supposed to tell you all about my battle with health issues and how diet and lifestyle changes got me through. I do have that story but this is “about Jo” and I am not my diagnoses (and neither are you!).

So, instead I offer you some facts that may shed light on parts of who I am and whether you would like to work with me:

  • I grew up on 10 acres in western Montana where my brother and I were given free range to run, play, and explore. We built forts, climbed trees, helped mom in the garden, played in the irrigation ditch, and tried to fly like Mary Poppins. How I never broke a bone is still a mystery.

  • From the age of 16 until 21 I spent my summers working as a Girl Scout summer camp councelor in Montana. If you ever need tips on building a 1-match campfire, tying a bowline knot, or crafting a lanyard – I’m your gal!

  • In 2007, I adopted two little white puffballs from a co-worker that found them in her hay bin. Those puffballs grew into two rather large and cuddly cats whom I adore.

  • I have a serious case of wanderlust but prefer to travel ‘off the beaten path’.

  • Two days after adopting the puffballs I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado (after a year of planning). I sold anything that didn’t fit in my Jetta so I had very little beyond clothes, outdoor gear, and the cats.

  • My Character Strengths (according to the VIA Institute self-assessment) are:
    • 1.     Gratitude

    • 2.     Love

    • 3.     Judgment

    • 4.     Appreciation of beauty and excellence

    • 5.     Honesty

  • Few things brighten my day as much as a good pun.

  • Our little family got a new member in 2019 – a rescue Mini Aussie. He makes a much better kayaking and hiking companion than the cats.

  • I am still a work in progress. If I’m being honest (and it’s hard for me not to be), I still struggle with my fears of failure and vulnerability.

It may seem ironic that I struggle with the very things people need to overcome in order to reach out and ask for my help. And at times those issues still hold me back. However, I also deeply understand how hard it can be to let go of fears, doubts, and a self-fulfilling negative mindset in order to accomplish a goal. I believe we can tap into our weaknesses, just as much as our strengths, to become better versions of ourselves. It wasn’t (and isn’t) always easy, but I have created a life I love that is not defined by illness. I am living nourished and I want to support you as you discover what that means for you.
